Pre Winter Car Maintenance Tips
ByIs your car ready for Winter?
The most critical time of year to have your car serviced is right now…as we enter into the winter season. During winter your car, is
challenged with the most rigorous of weather conditions; cold, moisture, ice, snow, etc. In addition, it’s vital to your family’s safety that you’ve prepared your vehicle with winter tires, and a thorough check up of safety features such as brakes.
It’s important that you have your vehicle thoroughly checked out before the cold weather sets in, but here are some specific suggestions;
- Winter Tires; It’s been said that we, here in the Niagara, Hamilton, area live in the banana belt of Canada and to a certain extent we are pretty lucky. But there’s a downside in winter. Here in Niagara, we could get anything from a winter snowstorm, to freezing rain, sleet, and pretty much anything else Mother Nature wants to throw at us. Winter tires in Niagara is important to ensure proper traction and safety no matter what the driving conditions.
- Brakes; It goes without saying that your brakes need to be in top working condition for safe winter driving. Checking the brake pads and shoes, rotors, calipers, etc. to ensure that your car will stop safely is a wise and inexpensive investment.
- Battery; In the cold weather your battery requires more power to turn over your engine, especially on those really cold mornings. Best to find out now if your battery is in good enough condition to get you going when you need to.
- Cooling System; We sometimes don’t think about the cooling system in winter. But it is vital to the safety of your engine to ensure that your thermostat is working properly, your belts and hoses are in good condition, and your anti-freeze is strong enough to get you through the winter months.
